The Father Nerds Best Dining Experience #KingOfSoup

I have partnered with Life of Dad and Idahoan® Foods for this campaign, but my opinions are my own.

With today’s trouble of balancing work life and home life, it’s often hard to take time and enjoy a family meal together. When you do, it’s typically at home in the same place you’ve been eating meals day in and day out for as long as you can remember. It would be nice to go to a fancy restaurant from time to time and experience fine dining at a steakhouse or some upscale restaurant. That’s not always in the cards (or the budget) so what are you to do when you want that fancy dining experience but can’t seem to ever make it to one? Well, thanks to the fine folks at Idahoan® Foods, they are letting me bring the tastes of a fancy steakhouse home while giving me the chance to convert my dining room into a Steakhouse environment. With the help of Idahoan® Premium Steakhouse Potato® Soup, a number of other dads and I will be competing for the #KingOfSoup title by converting our dinner experience into something a little more luxurious. There can be only one #KingOfSoup, so I’m going to use my harshest critic to make sure I bring my game face to this competition…my son.

The evening started out with Jack being presented with a menu of tonight’s offerings. He isn’t the fondest of steak, so we catered the menu to something a little more friendly to his taste buds.

Jack carefully reviews the menu while enjoying his white grape juice in a stemless wine glass. Doesn’t get much more fancy than that, and much more nerve wracking for the parents when a 3 year old drinks out of a glass. Thankfully, no spills throughout the night!

Jack selects his appetizer from the list of 4 Premium Steakhouse® Soups that Idahoan® offers. His choices included Cheddar Broccoli Soup, Creamy Potato Soup, Loaded Potato Soup, and Three Cheese Chipotle Potato Soup. After learning of his choice and directing his finger to the correct words on the menu for a photo (he can’t read yet folks, give him time!) the soup was put on the stove!

One of the best things about Idahoan® Premium Steakhouse® Potato Soup is that it cooks in 5 minutes. The entire process is completely painless and prep work involves boiling 4 cups of water, then tossing in the soup mixture and whisking/simmering for 5 minutes. That’s all. And when a grumpy three year old is demanding his appetizer, it’s a good thing it’s done fast!

After about 10 minutes after ordering (we gave it an additional 5 minutes to cool off per the instructions) the appetizer was served to our distinguished guest.

Success! The critic has spoken and given two thumbs up!

The soup was a big hit and the three year old approved! Another positive besides the creation time is that the soup pairs with almost anything you would want to make for a fancy dinner. For tonight’s main course, we presented our guest with pork tenderloin and roasted veggies. After finishing up a healthy portion of his soup, he moved on to the main course and made short work of his dinner. Thanks to Idahoan® Premium Steakhouse® Potato Soup, the meal was a success and the Steakhouse experience was achieved.

Regardless of the dinner you’re making, there is sure to be a flavor your family will enjoy. With 4 selections to choose from and pair against, it doesn’t matter if you’re making fish, pork, or steak, there will be something for everyone. With total cook time at 5 minutes, it blows those other instant potato soup companies out of the water with their times taking upwards of 15 minutes. You can learn more about Idahoan® Premium Steakhouse® Potato Soup from their website (and see some other recipes for their other products) at or by following @IdahoanFoods on social media.

After a successful meal in the Father Nerds Best Restaurant, it’s plain to see who the #KingOfSoup is. The restaurant quality ambiance and dinner served with a smile ensured one three year old received the fanciest dinner he has had in his short life. I anxiously look forward to seeing how the other dads set their claim on the #KingOfSoup title and look forward to the best person winning!
